Addenda are proposed to the Law on Military Service and Serviceman’s Status.
According to the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan, it is proposed to supplement Article 21 of the HO-195-N law of November 15, 2017 on Military Service and Serviceman’s Status with new parts 5.1 and 5.2, with the following content: “A citizen who, as a foreign citizen, acquired RA citizenship in order to play in the national team of the Republic of Armenia (of any age group) in any sport and lost the right to postpone compulsory military service until May 1, 2021, is exempted from compulsory military service.
In order to be exempted from compulsory military service, the citizen or the relevant federation applies to the authorized body of the state administration in the field of sport until October 1, 2022, which verifies the compliance of the submitted documents with 5.1 of the Article within a month and submits a petition to the Ministry of Defense, which exempts a citizen from compulsory military service, after receiving the petition of the authorized body of state administration in the field of sport, within a month.”
The draft law was debated in the first reading at the sitting of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security held on September 5.
The draft will be included in the draft agenda of the NA upcoming regular sittings with the endorsement of the Committee.
