We Need to Provide Guarantees for Karabakh’s Armenian Population To Live In Its Own Land: European Parliament Member
A conference, entitled "Human Rights & the Artsakh War 2020," was held Thursday in the European Parliament and on the initiative of European Parliament member (MEP) Peter van Dalen, a member of the European Parliament, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party informs NEWS.am.
The keynote speakers at the event were Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan, and Siranush Sahakyan, the Armenian POWs’ representative at the European Court of Human Rights.
The event brought together many MEPs, politicians, diplomats, and NGO representatives.
In his remarks, MEP Van Dalen reaffirmed his readiness to support Artsakh, and stated that he stands with the Armenian people, the lives of the indigenous Armenian people of Artsakh and their cultural heritage are under threat, and therefore people should not accept any "status quo" for Artsakh, but rather provide guarantees for the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh to live in its historical land.
The keynote speakers of the conference spoke about the gross violations of human rights and international conventions by Azerbaijan during the 44-day Artsakh war in the fall of 2020 and the period following it.
The addresses were followed by questions and answers, including by the Azerbaijanis in attendance to this event.
