70% of All Foreign Investment in Central Asia Falls to Kazakhstan

At a meeting with the faculty of the YSU Ijevan branch, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Armenia, Ayimdos Bozzhigitov said that in the context of the looming economic crisis, it was important to protect the country from the economic downturn.   Ayimdos Bozzhigitov added that in order to prevent possible negative effects of the global crisis, Kazakhstan had chosen the path of intensive development of infrastructure and creation of new jobs.

The event was organized by the NGO "European Integration" with the joint efforts of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Armenia in the framework of "Kazakhstan-Armenia: Platform for Cooperation" project.

During the meeting, the Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Armenia, Abu Zhanbolat Molgabayuli in his report presented the main theses of President Nazarbayev’s message addressed to the people of Kazakhstan in November 2014. In the message the necessity for consolidation of the society against the backdrop of the expected economic crisis was underlined as well as main vectors of activity in the country for the next 5 years were identified.  Citing Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Consul stated:  "People are the base of the state, and their welfare - the basis for sustainable development of the state." This is the strategy Kazakhstan has adopted until 2050.  The strategy highlights the main directions of activities, including the development and construction of regional energy, industrial infrastructures, improvement of housing infrastructure (utilities), the provision of affordable housing loans, support for small and medium-sized businesses, etc. Mr. Molgabayuli emphasized creativity, knowledge, perseverance and unity of the citizens as the basic conditions for the development of Kazakhstan or any other country.

The head of the Regional Studies at Information and Public Relations Center Manvel Gumashyan in his report spoke about  the peculiarities of Kazakhstan’s domestic and foreign policy; the ones that are pinpointed  in the Strategy-2050. The expert, as one of the main problems of Kazakhstan, highlighted uneven development in regions as well as the uneven distribution of population in the country. At the same time, Mr. Gumashyan stressed that "70% of all foreign investments in Central Asia falls to Kazakhstan; the fact that indicates the rapid growth of the economy in the country". However the expert noted that these resources are mainly used for the development of the energy sector, when Kazakhstan requires a reorientation of the economy. In his speech the expert emphasized the importance of the creation of new jobs stated  in the  new policy of Kazakhstan.

For the sustainable development of any country its social agenda is important. During the event orientalist Naira Mkrtchyan commented on the social and cultural policy of Kazakhstan. In her speech she emphasized an atmosphere of tolerance and unity that prevails in Kazakh society, consisting of 130 nationalities. Mrs. Mkrtchyan presented the activities of those government agencies, which coordinate the work of different faiths and ethnic minorities. "Today Kazakh society is united around three main pillars - common history, common values and a common future," - said Naira Mkrtchyan. She emphasized the importance of civic identity in Kazakhstan - regardless of nationality.

The head of NGO "Integration and Development", Aram Safaryan,  in his report presented the summary of the main ideas and policy vectors of Kazakhstan, which today are of particular importance for Armenia and for other countries against the backdrop of global political processes. He urged the participants of the conference to pay attention to the fact that Kazakhstan, despite being a multi-ethnic country is the only one in the former Soviet Union, where there has not been and at present there is no ethnic conflict.

"The world is in painful transition to a multi-polar system, which is accompanied by a terrible conflict of civilizations. The experience of Kazakhstan in building solidarity and unity of civil society can be useful for all those who want to build a society without conflict," – Safarian noted.

The participants of the conference underlined the importance of the exchange of experience in different spheres between Armenia and Kazakhstan, which gained a higher priority after the two countries became the members of the same economic union - the Eurasian Economic Union.
