June 30 Not to Turn to a Historic Day

Today is the deadline for the conclusion of an Iranian nuclear deal. June 30 is the date about which the world has been talking for several months, but as it turns out, in vain. Iran and the six world powers will not be able to meet the deadline as there are issues the sides cannot come to an agreement. After the framework agreement, it was predicted that there will be a nuclear deal, moreover, many high level politicians and various analysts were sure that this will be possible till June 30.

It has already been declared that no deal will be signed in Vienna on June 30. On the occasion the British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said: "No deal is better than a bad deal. There are red lines that we cannot cross and some very difficult decisions and tough choices are going to have to be made by all of us," jta.org reports.

There are two main issues around which none of the sides is ready to compromise – inspection of military sites and relief of the sanctions. As for the Iranian side, they say that as soon as there is a deal, the sanctions should be immediately lifted and there should be certain limits to international inspections. The six world powers say that the sanctions will be lifted phase by phase and there should be military inspections.

Iranian Gen. Masoud Jazayeri said the attempt by the US and its allies to "obtain Iran’s military information for years … by the pressure of sanctions" will not succeed, The Times of Israel reports.

Interestingly enough, during these days it was only the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini that declared she is optimistic there will be a deal - not on June 30, but in the coming days.

"If we need to have a couple of additional days more, it’s not the end of the world… I see the political will to finalize the deal. We are near to closing the deal, it is a good deal," Mogherini said, Financial Times reports.
