Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Summer not the Best Time
When the attention of the whole world is now concentrated on what is going on in Turkey – both the internal intrigues and the airstrikes, not so far from it other deadly events are happening. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is escalating day by day. Everything is in such a mass that it is difficult to say what side is guilty and for what.
The recent incident that shocked everyone was the death of a one and a half years old Palestinian baby. On Friday a house was set into fire, on the walls of the home written in Hebrew "Revenge" and "Long live the king messiah." As The Times of Israel informs, the Israel Defense Forces condemned the "terror attack," and pledged to find the perpetrators. In his turn the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the cruel incident and in a talk with Abbas said that behind the attack "are terror groups, we will arrest them and put them on trial."
It is obvious that no matter that the Israeli side calls this incident a terrorist attack and the people who committed it extremists, this will become a reason for the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Hamas has already called the Palestinians to organize a "day of revenge" and "to respond in an unprecedented way" for this crime, newsru.co.il reports. In his turn the President of Palestine Abbas said that they will turn to International Criminal Court introducing this attack as an example of Israeli war crime against Palestine. "Every day we wake up to a similar crime. This is a war crime and a tragedy at the same time. Therefore we will not stay still. Absolutely not. As long as the settlement and the occupation are there," The Times of Israel quotes Abbas.
The international community also condemned the incident of Friday. The US State Department condemned the "cruel terror in the Palestinian village" and called all the sides to show restraint. The reaction of the European Union was a little bit different and it was mostly directed towards Israel. In its statement, the Press Service of the foreign policy department of the European Union strongly condemned the burning of the house in the village of Duma. The statement also called the Israeli authorities to do everything possible to find the criminals, "presumably settler extremists" and to take serious measures to ensure the security of the Palestinian population. The Foreign Ministry of Russia also condemned the incident and expressed hope that the Israeli authorities will find those guilty.
It is difficult to assume that everything will end with this. Taking into consideration the way the sides of the conflict have acted during these many years, one would expect new developments and new clashes – the reason being not only the house burned in Duma but also the 300 new housings that Israel plans to build in the Israeli settlements in the West Bank. It seems summer is not the best time for Israelis and Palestinians…
