Armenian Youth Discussed RA Integration Processes
On December 3, in the framework of the project "The Voice of Youth 4. New Season", the second two-day training took place in Yerevan organized by NGO "European Integration" with the support of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of the RA. The first day of the training was dedicated to the foreign policy of Armenia in the context of integration processes. In particular, integration processes in CIS, CSTO, EAEU and the EU were discussed.
Special attention was paid to the creation of EAEU and integration processes going on in it, its future expansion and possible candidates. The aims and expectations of each of the EAEU members were also presented.
Commenting on Armenia's role in the EAEU experts outlined the priorities for Armenia in the union, in particular solving problems with infrastructure. Given the fact that the EAEU is not yet fully formed structure and the division of the roles is not definitive, the experts stressed that Armenia should take steps to obtain its certain role in the alliance. In this context, it was noted that Armenia, being in a trustful relationship with the EU and being one of the most transparent countries of the EAEU for the EU can in the best way contribute to EAEU’s cooperation with the European Union.
The participants also suggested that Armenia should take the initiative on the establishment of cultural, labor migration and youth program coordination centers, as well as offering cheap education in the Armenian institutes of higher education.
During the discussion, the participants also presented their views on the characteristics and process of European integration, in particular the low level of mutual recognition of the societies of the EAEU and the membership of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the union. Considerable attention was paid to the EU integration processes taking place in the framework of Eastern Partnership, the development of Armenia's relations with the EU within the framework of EaP. Speaking about Armenia-EU relations, the experts touched upon the changes in the relationship after September 3, 2014, the transformation of perceptions and perspectives of relations with the European Union in the context of membership of the EAEU, and the present state of negotiations between Armenia and the EU.
The experts expressed an opinion that Armenia cannot afford to have long-lasting talks, as in that case it can turn into an endless process. Participants expressed concerns about the low level of awareness among the citizens on Armenia-EU relations. Attention was also paid to the migrant crisis in the EU and its possible impact on the relations with Armenia, Armenia-EU visa regime and EU-Azerbaijan relations. As a result of the discussion on EU-Azerbaijan relations, the participants came to the conclusion that the internal developments of Azerbaijan will make Europe reconsider the role of Azerbaijan as an important regional player.
