Khosrov Harutyunyan: I Wish We Could Shape the Future on Inspiration of the Past (Exclusive)

PanArmenian Photo

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia’s independence "Armedia" IAA presents an exclusive interview with Khosrov Harutyunyan, the former Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.

Mr. Harutyunyan, what are the most significant achievement and omission of Armenia’s 25 years old independence?

- There were many omissions, but there were also lots of achievements. I will choose the most important ones.

First of all, it is the formation of the state administration system. Secondly, among the most important ones is the victory in the Artsakh war that is a direct result of the effectiveness of the state administration system. Thirdly, it is security stronghold, our Army, and the whole security system including Atrsakh.

Of course, we should also refer to the Constitution. We have had three Constitutions (conditionally stated) that gradually move the public life towards the formation of civil society and democracy.

It should be also noted that Armenia has its important and continuous  participation in the various international processes by becoming a member of Council of Europe, OSCE and other international organizations. In intergovernmental relations Armenia is perceived as a stable and reliable partner.

To sum up, we can say that during these 25 years we have both managed to get international reputation in the field of foreign policy and to create political and legal conditions inside the country that are needed to ensure dynamic development. These are the most important achievements.

Do you have any wishes on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of independence?

-  Looking back to our 25-year old history we will surely find pages that inspire us. I wish we could shape the future on that inspiration of the past. I wish we could leave our children dynamically developing and safe Armenia that has its responsible and influential role in international relations, a country where everyone, no matter Armenian or not, could have the opportunity to live a dignified life. I wish you all to have such Armenia.
