Artsakh War Veteran: Safe Military Service to All Our Soliders
On the 25th anniversary of the army of the Republic of Armenia "Armedia"IAA talked to a war veteran from Sasun detachment, Ruben Sargsyan.
- What made you go to the front and what was the main idea leading people on those days?
- The fact that a part of our homeland was at risk. It made us all realize that our country needs us in that difficult time.
- What has since changed in the image of the soldier?
- Then, it was harder for people to came to army, and those who came did not serve well and did not become specialized in military sphere. Now, we have a professional army starting form military college and institute to daily trainings for soldiers in military units.
- What would you wish to our soldiers on January 28?
- Safe and peaceful service to all our soldiers, first of all. And then, more powerful army, of course!
- What interesting story would you remember from the years of the war?
- There is one very interesting episode, but it is not directly related to our detachment. There was a tank on the high pedestal set, which had remained in Yeghegnadzor from the Great Patriotic War of 1941.
The soldiers from Yeghegnadzor took the tank, even made it move, but the transfer box was missing. And the quick-witted soldiers came to Yerevan, where another Soviet tank was standing in the Victory Park, took its transfer box to replace with the missing one. First, they were caught by the local police, but when Vazgen Sargsyan (famous Armenian military commander) learned about it, he only laughed and allowed boys to do what they wanted.
There was a Khachik village near Yeghegnadzor, which was on the border with the region of Nakhichevan and the situation was really tense there. So the tank made its way to Khachik, and when the Turks saw it from afar, there made a big panic. In fact the 50-year-old tank didn’t work shortly after, but it did frighten the opponent pretty much.
