Will Democrats Succeed in Impeaching Trump?
In the American political circles, the issue of introducing impeachment resolutions against US President Donald Trump is being raised again.
It should be noted that the issue of introducing impeachment to Trump is not new, it has been accompanying the US President from the first months of his appointment. But if earlier this issue was just a topic of discussion, and no concrete steps were taken to make it happen, nowadays according to CNN, likelihood of impeachment is a little bit higher.
One of the possible reasons for impeachment is the fact that Trump has violated campaign finance law. According to New York Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler, who is also the incoming chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, if President Trump is found to have directed Michael Cohen to pay off former Playboy model Karen McDougal, it would be ''impeachable offense''.
''Well, they would be impeachable offenses, whether they are important enough to justify an impeachment is a different question. But certainly they’d be impeachable offenses because even though they were committed before the president became president, they were committed in the service of fraudulently obtaining the office, that would be an impeachable offense'', Nadler told CNN.
It should be noted that certain facts already exist in this direction. Earlier this year US President Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, has released a secret recording of a conversation in which Trump appears to have knowledge about money payments to the former model with whom it is said he had an affair. (According to US law, all financial payments for the campaign should be open to the public, and an individual candidate may not receive more than $2,700 from any person per election). The recording was probably made two months before the 2016 presidential election. Cohen insisted that he paid for the model at Trump's request; moreover, he already admitted his guilt to violate campaign finance law.
But according to Trump Cohen is just lying. In an interview with Reuters, Trump said he was not concerned with his likelihood of impeachment and that Americans would revolt if it had happened.
''It’s hard to impeach somebody who hasn’t done anything wrong and who’s created the greatest economy in the history of our country. I’m not concerned, no. I think that the people would revolt if that happened'', Trump said.
However, let's note that according to CNN, in reality Trump is said to have become increasingly worried about the prospect of being impeached in recent days. Referring to his own sources, CNN reports that in Trump's opinion this can happen in January when the Democratic Party officially takes over control of the House of Representatives.
It should be noted that according to the results of interim elections held in the United States on November 6, the Democratic Party will take control over the House of Representatives, which gives them an opportunity to initiate an investigation against Trump not only on the issue over Playboy model but also over the allegations about Russian involvement in the American presidential election.
The most important thing is that they have the right to create investigative commissions and "force" everyone to come and testify. However, it should be noted that Trump has already promised that he will not go to investigative commissions and will not give testimony. He also threatened to reduce the funding of all possible commissions.
