«Armenia!» exhibition in New York's Metropolitan Museum is closed on January 13, 2019 registering a record number of visitors since its opening from September 24, 2018.
According to the museum sources, during the three and half months the exhibition had at least 250,000 visitors, aysor.am reported.
Another 250,000 watched the samples presented at the exhibition online on the special webpage opened in the official website of the museum.
Curator of the exhibition Helen Evans, expert in Byzantine Art and Armenian culture has been awarded by the Armenian Catholicos the highest award of the Armenian Church “St Sahak-St Mesrop” Medal for her pro-Armenian activities.
Through some 140 objects—including opulent gilded reliquaries, richly illuminated manuscripts, rare textiles, cross stones (khachkars), precious liturgical furnishings, church models, and printed books—the exhibition demonstrated how Armenians developed a unique Christian identity that linked their widespread communities over the years.
At the opening ceremony present were His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. They delivered opening remarks at the event.
