Armenia-Sweden Cooperation Prospects Discussed
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by Peter Eriksson, Minister for International Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Sweden.
Welcoming the Swedish Minister’s visit, which is a good opportunity to discuss the prospects of Armenia-Sweden cooperation, Nikol Pashinyan pointed out that the ongoing democratic process is irreversible in Armenia in terms of promoting the rule of law, human rights and transparency, and providing new opportunities for building closer ties with EU-member States, including Sweden as the latter boasts huge experience in these areas :
The Premier said Armenia has developed an ambitious reform agenda, and is prepared to expand cooperation with the EU in the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Thankful for the reception, Peter Eriksson noted that this is his first ever visit to our country, and he would be happy to look at ways of developing bilateral relations. The Swedish Minister welcomed the changes taking place in our country aimed at strengthening democracy, promoting civil society, fighting corruption, and developing market economy. He said as a country that initiated the Eastern Partnership 10 years ago, Sweden is ready to strengthen ties with Armenia in both bilateral and multilateral formats, including the Eastern Partnership.
Nikol Pashinyan and Peter Eriksson discussed prospects for expanding interaction in a number of areas of bilateral interest, including environmental protection, renewable energy and other spheres. An arrangement was reached to work together in order to draft a memorandum of understanding, which would outline the specific directions and programs of cooperation.
The parties took the opportunity to exchange views on regional issues. In particular, they touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Pashinyan conveyed warm greetings to his Swedish counterpart Stefan Löfven.
