RA Prime Minister, Uruguay Foreign Minister Discuss Cooperation-Related Issues
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Foreign Minister of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Rodolfo Nin Novoa, who is in Armenia on an official visit.
Greeting the guest, the Premier noted that our countries boast close ties of friendship, which are reflected not only in the high-level official contacts, but also in the reciprocated warm attitude of the Armenians and Uruguayans. Nikol Pashinyan expressed conviction that the Foreign Minister’s visit might boost the development of bilateral relations and that the upcoming inauguration of Uruguay’s Consulate General in Yerevan is the evidence of high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Uruguay.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Armenians highly appreciate and are deeply grateful to Uruguay for officially acknowledging the Armenian Genocide in 1965, making thereby an exceptional contribution to the process of Genocide recognition.
Rodolfo Nin Novoa said he was happy to be in friendly Armenia and have the opportunity to discuss cooperation issues. The Uruguayan Foreign Minister said his country makes a point of the opening of Uruguay’s Consulate General in Yerevan, which will promote relations between the two countries. He assured that Uruguay backs Armenia in the process of international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocides and will continue the efforts aimed at preventing genocides, in general.
The Foreign Minister of Uruguay emphasized that the Armenian community plays an important role in the development of his country and in the strengthening of friendly relations between two countries.
With reference to today’s discussions held with his Armenian counterpart, Rodolfo Nin Novoa advised that issues of further cooperation were discussed, including the prospects for developing trade and economic exchanges. Nikol Pashinyan noted that the sides need to work together in order to translate the ongoing high-level political dialogue into tangible economic results. In this connection, Uruguay’s Foreign Minister stressed that there is great potential for cooperation in several areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Pashinyan reiterated Armenia’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that our country highly appreciates Uruguay’s impartial and neutral stance on the conflict and its support for the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ efforts. Rodolfo Nin Novoa emphasized that Uruguay supports the process aimed at finding a peaceful settlement to the conflict.
The interlocutors took the opportunity to exchange views on other issues on the international agenda. Extending his warmest greetings to the friendly people of Uruguay, Nikol Pashinyan asked Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa to convey to the President of Uruguay the invitation to visit Armenia.
