Mass Protests Against Citizenship Law to be Held in India
Large-scale protests against the adoption of amendments to the law on citizenship will be held on Thursday in at least 10 major cities in India, BBC reports.
According to him, demonstrations are planned in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Calcutta and others. However, in a number of cities, including the capital New Delhi, authorities did not allow protests.
These restrictions also affected Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka and the high-tech industry center of India, and the capital of Uttar Pradesh Lucknow. Last week, clashes took place between the police and students at Lucknow University, who tried to break into the city center for a major rally.
However, as noted by NDTV, it is still unclear whether attempts will also be made in these cities to hold demonstrations contrary to the ban of the authorities.
