EU Stands with Belarusian People: Borrell
The EU reacted to large-scale protests in Belarus on Sunday, showing its support for the Belarusian people. Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy posted this on Twitter, 112.international reports.
"Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians were out today demonstrating peacefully, demanding release of political prisoners, prosecution of those responsible for police brutality, and real elections. The EU stands by the Belarusian people", reads the post.
The protests in Belarus have been going on for a week now. The government attempted to disperse the activists, resorting to brute force, which only increased protest mood of common citizens. Large enterprises and residents of cities unite, gather in live chains to show their disapproval and refusal to recognize the results of recent presidential election in Belarus.
