Armenia's FM Met with the President of the ICRC Peter Maurer
On October 30, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Peter Maurer, the President of the ICRC in Geneva. The situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone resulting from the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan was the main subject of the meeting..
Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan provided detailed information to the ICRC President Peter Muerer about the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh as well as the gross violations of international humanitarian law, including Geneva Conventions. Minister Mnatsakanyan briefed his interlocutor on the facts of deliberate targeting of civilian population and infrastructure of Artsakh by the Azerbaijani armed forces and the following damages, the use of weapons prohibited by international conventions against the population of Artsakh, the humiliating treatment, torture and murder of prisoners of war and civilians under their control. The Minister stressed that human rights and their protection are universal, regardless of the status of the territory, and any other interpretation in this regard is absolutely unacceptable.
Touching upon Turkey's destabilizing policy in the South Caucasus and its aspirations to turn the region into a hotbed of terrorism, the Foreign Minister stressed that Turkey's direct military involvement in the war unleashed by Azerbaijan and the transfer of foreign terrorist fighters from the Middle East poses a serious threat to regional and international security.
The sides stressed the need for implementation of the agreements on cessation of hostilities reached on October 10, October 17 and October 25, as well as the peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
The ICRC President emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts aimed at implementing the ceasefire agreement and the agreement on the exchange bodies of those killed.
