Russia to Provide Necessary Assistance to Yerevan in Case Military Hostilities Transfer Directly to Armenia’s Territory – Russia’s MFA
After the appeal of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin with the request to start consultation to determine the type and amount of assistance Russia may provide to the Republic of Armenia for ensuring its security, Russia’s MFA issued a statement confirming the country’s commitment to obligations to Armenia, including the ones stemming from the Agreement on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance signed between the countries on August 29, 1997, Aysor reports.
A number of articles of the Agreement implies concrete actions in case of threat of military attack or aggression act against the territories of the two countries.
In accordance with the Agreement Russia will provide all the necessary assistance to Yerevan if the military actions transfer directly to Armenia’s territory.
"We again call on Karabakh conflicting parties to immediately cease the hostilities, de-escalate the situation and return to substantive negotiations on the bases of fundamental principles and in accordance with the agreements reached between the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia in Moscow on October 10," the statement said.
