Armenian Authorities ‘Embarking on a New Geopolitical Adventure’: Karen Bekaryan (Tert.am)
The Armenian authorities are pushing their way into a new and big adventure being built upon a conflict of geopolitical interests, political analyst Karen Bekaryan said Monday, blaming the current government for "abandoning duties", Tert.am reports.
As the specific addressees, he pointed out to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and Russia
Commenting on the specific expectations from the global players, the analyst presented his outlook on the visible signals which Armenia repeatedly sends to the world. “The Armenian authorities did not manage to curb attempted aggression by the adversary; they did not take preventive action and, what’s even more, failed as a state to demonstrate [an adequate] attitude towards all the responsible figures whose functional duty was to ensure the country’s security and the sovereign territory’s defense. In other words, the one who gives those various signals for help has not practically taken any action to stop all this,” he emphasized.
Bekaryan also questioned the logic behind the authorities’ move to turn directly to the CSTO (instead of Russia)
“Let us again take the global perspective. We have an ally [i.e. - Russia], which is overly engaged in all those processes, fulfilling - in all the senses - a mediation mission pursuant to the documents signed after the war. They own a military base on our territory, have a bilateral legal-contractual platform of cooperation, which we circumvent by applying to the CSTO - where we again pin hope on that very country,” he noted.
The expert also dismissed any clearly defined visible expectations from the CSTO. “We applied to the CSTO with a request not for arranging a specific action but rather – initiating consultations. What is the expectation from those consultations after all?” he asked.
