Ex-Acting FM Ara Aivazian Reveals Reason of His Resignation

Armenia’s acting minister of foreign affairs Ara Aivazian had a farewell meeting with the staff of the ministry on May 31, aysor.am reports.

Aivazian stated that during this period they did the utmost and now the international partners understood that Armenia, Artsakh, Armenians are not defeated.

“Our enemies understood it too. And it is not less important that during these alarming days we have become the structure perceivable for our people, our voice has become more heard and we acquired trust of our people,” he said, expressing gratitude to the staff for the carried out work.

“I have assumed this post with big difficulty but when I assumed it there was one criteria for me – this ministry must strictly observe our sovereignty, independence, our state and national interests. My decision to resign is agreed with this reason – for no one to ever doubt that this ministry may take a step or agree to ideas, initiatives which are against our statehood, our national and state interests,” he said.

“My advice – a diplomat is being perceived as a personality who avoids sharp edges, complies with the situation. I believe that in these hardest conditions we don’t have this right and I am sure in our midst will be principle diplomats who will become the guidelines for our people,” he said.
