RA Third President Serzh Sargsyan Replies to Ilham Aliyev’s Paranoiac Remarks Voiced in Mataghis

The third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, has replied to Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev’s paranoiac remarks voiced in Mataghis village of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

The respective statement reads as follows:

"The leader of Azerbaijan behaves like a teenager who after he has been beaten calls his father to help him and then bridles up behind his back.  Why didn’t you extend an invitation to visit Mataghis village of Martakert region in the Artsakh Republic some 3 or 10 years ago? You should have gotten on your high horse at the moment you complained that you were being pressured behind the closed doors to recognize the independence of Artsakh.  Not surprisingly, after what happened three years ago, Aliyev took over the role of Capitulator’s [i.e., he means Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan] lawyer and defender. For a while now, they have joined forces and keep targeting me and my comrades-in-arms, most of whom are heroes of Artsakh.  You are calling others deserters. That is just the pot calling the kettle black! Everyone knows where I was and where you yourself were during the first Artsakh war when your compatriots were being killed in deadly clashes with Armenian heroes as the latter were fighting for self-defense and Artsakh’s liberation in their historic homeland.  You were old enough to go to the battlefield. I know where you were. Speak up, let others know the truth.  You have a good partner in Armenia now: he is just the one to be invited. Take your chance. Otherwise, I will come to Mataghis or any other settlement and region in the Artsakh Republic once you no longer have the Capitulator as your Armenian counterpart."
