The Ambassador of Russia to Armenia: "The Tragedy of Gyumri should not be Politicized"

Russian Embassy expressed condolences to the families and friends of the family killed in Gyumri. At the same time the Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Ivan Volnikin called not to politicize the tragedy of Gyumri and ensured that the criminal investigation will reveal everything and the criminal will be punished, reports Ria Novosti. "Embassy employees are shocked by the terrible tragedy that occurred in Gyumri. We mourn with the Armenian people and sympathize with the victims' families and friends. Those who are responsible for this awful crime should be severely punished. Armenian and Russian competent bodies carry out the necessary procedures the aim of which is to have an objective and comprehensive investigation. The investigating groups coordinate their efforts according to the agreement on establishing the 102nd military base in the territory of the RA", - said the ambassador in an interview with Sputnik Radio.

Today protests will be held near the Russian Embassy and the presidential residency. The ambassador has mentioned that people have a right to express their opinion and emotions. "I understand those people, their feelings, because a brutal crime was done, for which the criminal should be held accountable. People, of course, have a right to express their opinion, emotions, but I think that this question should not be politicized", - said Volnikin.

At the same time he has assured that the offender will be punished. "Crime has no nationality, especially in this case. We should not light a political fire from this. I think that the investigation will reveal all the details of this crime and the criminal will be punished accordingly",- stressed the ambassador.

It should be reminded that earlier Valeri Permyakov was found in the Armenian-Turkish border and has already confessed his crime. According to the Armenian Permyakov was arrested media on January 14. As NEWS.am informs he was charged under the Part 2 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code and part 2 of Article 338 – murder and apostasy. The Prosecutor General's Office of the RA stated that under the framework of the powers conferred by the RA legislation, the prosecution continues its control over the legality of the investigation. At the same time it is mentioned that the Prosecutor General's Office of the RA in accordance with the RA Constitution and international treaties, takes measures to ensure the inevitability for criminal responsibility of the crime.

Earlier the Russian Embassy in Armenia made an announcement on the tragedy of Gyumri, which said: "The offenders of this awful crime should be severely punished".

Today Gyumri is paying its last tribute to Avetisyans.
