A senior EU official announced that if Turkey wants to increase the security of its citizens then it should be in compliance with the EU standards, as well as with fundamental rights and freedoms, Hurriyet reports. The official referred to the "Home Security Package" which was also criticized by the opposition parties of Turkey. The opposition states that if this law is adopted then Turkey will become a "police state".
