Russia signed a state border agreement with South Ossetia. The document was signed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the de facto foreign minister of South Ossetia, David Sanakoyev, Radio Liberty reports.
According to Lavrov state border agreement is "an attribute of any state." He declared that such an agreement is also going to be signed with Abkhazia. "This once more emphasizes that our relations with both republics are equally positive," – said Lavrov. The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that abolition of borders means easing the mode of crossing the state border between the two friendly countries - for their citizens, for economic activities and for humanitarian contact.
Last month, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili urged the European Union to strongly oppose the border deal between Russia and South Ossetia.
