The representatives of the US Congress called their colleagues to vote for the resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Times.am reports.
The letter addressed to the congressmen is initiated by Republicans Robert J. Dold, David Valado (from Illinois and California respectively) and Democrats Adam B. Schiff, Frank Pallone (from California and New Jersey respectively). In the latter it is said: "42 US States, as well as 11 of our NATO allies have recognized the Armenian genocide. On this special year, it is time for the United States government to officially join those struggling against the genocide denial." In the draft resolution it is also stressed that before being elected as a President, Barack Obama many times declared that "the Armenian genocide is a historical reality."
The discussion of the draft resolution will be held on February 24. It condemns the Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915 and calls the US President Barack Obama to put pressure on Turkey to solve the issue.
