Merve Büyüksaraç, who is a model and former Miss Turkey, as prosecutors claim, can face up to two years of imprisonment for "insulting" the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
As Hurriyet informs, Büyüksaraç shared a poem on her Instagram wall called "The Master’s Poem", which satirically criticized Erdoğan through verses adapted from the lyrics of Turkey’s national anthem.
The prosecutors of Turkey consider this post not to comply with the freedom of speech and demand to send her into jail. Criminal Court of First Instance in Istanbul will now decide whether to initiate proceedings.
On this occasion Merve Büyüksaraç said that she just posted it as it was funny, but she had no intention to insult the President.
