Today, on March 10 the report of the Human Rights Commissioner Nils Muižnieks on Armenia was published, Human Rights Europe reports. Referring to gender inequality in Armenia, the Human Rights Commissioner called to take more steps for addressing this issue. As a step towards this direction, the Commissioner suggested to adopt gender-related action plans and the 2013 Law on Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Women and Men.
He also called to eliminate gender bias in school curricula and encouraged the adoption of a comprehensive anti-discrimination law, increase in women’s representation in public and political life.
Meanwhile, The Commissioner in the report suggested more trainings for judicial authorities and law enforcement officers for them to better identify, investigate and prosecute cases of violence against women, with adequate punishment for the perpetrators.
