Today at dawn the police dispersed sit-down-strike against the increased prices of electricity, which lasted the whole night on Baghramyan Avenue in the center of Yerevan. The force operation started at 05.30 after the police warned that the protests were illegal.
Trying to disperse the protestors the police used special equipments, including water cannons, Radio Azatutsyun informs. As a result of the police operation many citizens were injured, many were taken to the police stations. The cameras of journalist were seized, they were thrown on the street sides as a result of which the equipments were damaged.
As the same source informs the people in civil clothes attacked people with a special activity. They deliberately attacked journalists, broke their cameras and seized the video chips.
It is to be reminded that yesterday at 19.00 the deadline of the ultimatum to the government by the representatives of the initiative “No to Robbery” expired which was against increased electricity tariffs
After which the protestors notwithstanding the warning of the police moved from the Liberty Square to the Baghramyan Avenue, where they had been on sit-down strike for four days, to Baghramyan , where the RA president's residence is.
The police blocked the Baghramyan Avenue not allowing them to move to the presidential residence and the protestors decided to have a sit-down strike at the beginning of the avenue. The protestors also refused to meet the president.
