Erdogan – an Ottoman Empire Sultan?

Only few days left till Turkey's snap elections, the situation in the country continues to remain tense, uncertain and destabilized. Moreover, it is becoming more dangerous, with Turkish President Tayip Erdogan ready to walk over everything that stands on the way to realizing his political ambitions. Present situation in Turkey can be easily compared with that of during the Ottoman Empire, when there was no ''freedom of speech'' and ''democracy.''

On October 28, just a few days before the snap elections, Turkish police stormed the headquarters and seized control of media outlets, owned by the Koza-Ipek Group; the one that includes famous Kanalturk TV, Bugun TV, daily Millet, and daily Bugun.  It should be noted that President Erdogan and AKP leader Ahmed Davutoglu accuse  Koza-Ipek in having  close ties with the US-based cleric Fetullah Gulen, who, according to them, tries to destroy ruling AK party and government authorities.

Moreover, for the ruling party in Turkey it has long ago become common to attack even children that stand on their way.

For example, recently 12 and 13 years old two children were detained for "insulting the Turkish president Erdogan.’’ Two cousins will stay in jail  for two years and four months only because they tore down posters with the photo of Erdogan. Besides, two students were arrested for calling Erdogan “tyrant''.

So far Erdogan has only succeeded in spreading terror among the population in the country. According to an article published by Hurriyet Daily, people even shudder in fear when President Recep Tayyip Erdogan starts speaking on TV. As the results of Gezici Research Company showed 68.5 percent of Turkish people are afraid of their own president.

Along all this Erdogan continues to surprise the world with his ridiculous and senseless announcements. Speaking at a reception he hosted in honor of Republic Day, he named his palace a "symbol" of the Turkish Republic. He went even further to call  his residential palace ''Presidential Külliye''-  an Ottoman architectural concept with a central mosque, hospital, library and public fountain, surrounding it.

One may wonder how long doTurkish authorities aim to go in their plans of turning Turkey into an Ottoman Empire and acting like tyrant sultan in the country?
