Clashes between police and migrants have taken place in the French city of Calais, as a result of which 16 law enforcement officers were injured, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the prefecture of the department of Pas-de-Calais.
As reported by Agence France-Presse, the riots began on Monday night when 200 people from the so-called "jungle" - the spontaneous settlements of illegal migrants - attempted to block the ring road.
According to law enforcement, the police used about 300 tear gas grenades. Migrants in response pelted them with stones, resulting in 16 people injured.
The number of illegal immigrants living in the camp in Calais has reached 6 thousand people recently.
