The longer the Karabakh conflict prolongs, the more intense the sides arm themselves, the higher the risk of a new escalation, including war between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Foreign Minister of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Monday in Vienna.
"Fierce fighting along the contact line six weeks ago shows that the long-term status quo is untenable in the long term," the Minister said.
According to Steinmeier, the OSCE plays an important role in resolving the conflict. "France, Russia and the United States are trying for many years as co-chairs of the Minsk Group to maintain the ceasefire. Germany, as the OSCE Chairman supports this," he added.
