Pope Francis has set up a commission to study the historical role of female deacons in the Catholic Church in order to decide whether women should be allowed to occupy such positions again, the Vatican said in a press release Tuesday, Sputnik News reports.
According to the statement, the commission, comprising seven men and six women, is set to study the issue, focusing on the role of female preachers in the early years of Catholicism.
