The initiative group said that it was collecting signatures for the purpose of the resignation of President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, and intends to carry out a radical protest because of the fact that the Georgian leader has refused to hold a referendum on the definition of marriage, - RIA Novosti reports.
The initiative group contributed to the CEC signature requirement to hold a referendum. The question to be submitted to a referendum reads as follows: "Do you agree that marriage is a union between a man and a woman to create a family?"
CEC registered the issue and sent the application together with the conclusion to the President. Margvelashvili refused to hold a referendum and noted that this issue has already been resolved in the Georgian legislation.
"Margvelashvili took a step, which is directed against the interests of the Georgian people. Accordingly, Margvelashvili is no longer considered a legitimate president. We begin appropriate for his resignation procedures as well as intend to conduct effective, radical protests." - the member of the initiative group Sandro Bregadze told the media.
