Israel’s Ninth President Shimon Peres Buried on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem

According to TASS, Israel’s ninth president, Nobel laureate Shimon Peres has been buried in the alley of national leaders at Israel’s memorial cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

Peres died in a hospital near Tel-Aviv on September 28 after suffering a stroke two weeks before.

He was Israel’s president in 2007-2014. Peres is remembered as a recognized patriarch of Israeli politics and a close associate of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion.

He was an active participant in the peace process with the Palestinians and an advocate of the Two States for Two Peoples concept. In the first half of the 1990s he contributed tangibly to the conclusion of several agreements with the Palestinians and the signing of a peace treaty with Jordan in 1994.
