The Maldives has become the seventh nation to cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and opening up the worst rift in years among some of the most powerful states in the Arab world, 9 News reports.
The Maldives foreign ministry said it joined six Arab countries in Monday's unprecedented move "because of its firm opposition to activities that encourage terrorism and extremism".
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Qatar in 1984.
To note previously Libya, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain on Monday accused Qatar of destabilising the region.
