Mainland authorities have informed the Department of Health's Centre for Health Protection about a human case of the potentially fatal H5N6 bird flu in Guangdong, rthk.hk reports.
It involves a 22-year-old man from Guangzhou, who developed symptoms on September 25. He was sent to hospital the next day and is now in a serious condition.
The patient had had contact with live poultry before the onset of symptoms.
From 2014 to date, 21 human cases of avian influenza A(H5N6) have been reported by the Mainland health authorities.
