The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ordered the Armenian Government to pay fines totaling €7,500 to applicants recognized as aggrieved parties in prosecutions over the March 2008 post-electoral turmoil, tert.am reported.
In the case Ayvazyan vs Armenia, the Court found a procedural violation of Article 5 (1) and Article 5 (3) of the European Convention on Human Rights (Liberty and Security), imposing a €4,500 fine on the Government in non-pecuniary damage to the applicant. In the case Voskerchyan vs Armenia, the ECHR ordered a fine of €3000 on grounds of procedural violations of Article 5(3) of the Convention.
In both cases, the Court found that the pretrial detention of the aggrieved was unsubstantiated.
