Iran is exercising "maximum restraint" and is committed to the nuclear deal despite the US withdrawal from the landmark agreement, its foreign minister said on Thursday, calling the re-imposition of sanctions by Washington “unacceptable”, English Alarabiya reports.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made the comments in a meeting with his Japanese counterpart in Tokyo as tensions rise in the Middle East, fueling concerns that the United States and Iran are heading for conflict.
Zarif's comments come contrary to the statements of top Iranian officials in the last few days, including Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander Major General Hossein Salami who said on Wednesday that they “are on the cusp of a full-scale confrontation with the enemy”.
