Azerbaijan's efforts to strengthen in the Nakhichevan direction, and with Turkey's help, have not been successful. Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Artak Davtyan, stated this at a December 26 press conference, News.am reports.
According to him, the Armenian side has more dominant heights by 30-40%, and in recent months a great deal of work has been done toward base equipment and road construction, which allows saving considerable time for troop redistribution.
"There was no deterioration of [military] positions; some improvement was of a tactical nature," Davtyan added. "Azerbaijan is making a lot of efforts with Turkey to strengthen in that direction. We are effectively counteracting it."
