Alexander Lukashenko, has been sworn in for a new term in a sudden inauguration conducted with no prior announcement, according to official news agency Beltra, ABC reports.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the capital of Minsk, with several hundred top Government officials present.
During the ceremony, Mr Lukashenko swore to "serve the people of the Republic of Belarus, [and] respect and protect [the] rights and freedoms of people and citizens".
After he was sworn in, the head of the country's election commission handed him a card identifying him as the President of Belarus.
