Karabakh Armenians’ lives are at risk without International Court of Justice immediate actions: Lawrence Martin

Without the immediate actions by the International Court of Justice, the lives of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians are at risk. Lawrence Martin, one of the lawyers representing Armenia's claim against Azerbaijan, announced this during Mondays hearing of the ICJ, NEWS.am reports.

The ethnic population of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians is virtually completely cut off from the outside world and deprived of access to food, medicine and other vital items, Martin said.

Without immediate action by the International Court of Justice, their lives are in danger, the attorney noted.

During the 44-day war of 2020, tens of thousands of Armenians were forcibly displaced from the territories occupied by Azerbaijan, and none of them could return to their homes, Martin stated.

According to him, Azerbaijan is doing everything possible to make the life of the remaining ethnic Armenians in the region unbearable.

Azerbaijanis attacked Armenian villages—violating the ceasefire agreement, forcibly displaced the Armenian residents—from the occupied Karabakh territories, and repeatedly blocked access to natural gas, mobile communication and the internet, the lawyer added.

About 120 thousand ethnic Armenians have remained in Karabakh, he said

They are connected with Armenia and the outside world through the only corridor—the Lachin corridor, which is now closed by Azerbaijan, the lawyer explained, adding that flights in that direction are also not carried out because Azerbaijan threatens to shoot down any plane.
