New US ambassador to Russia, Lynne Tracy, officially starts work
The new U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy presented copies of her credentials to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, Kommersant reports.
This was the first time Tracy came to the Russian ministry to do so. The presentation of credentials is a formality, after which a diplomat is considered to have officially started working in the host country.
During the meeting Ryabkov pointed out to the Ambassador that "the current confrontational course of the United States is counterproductive which may lead to serious negative consequences" and that Lynne Tracy is expected not to interfere in Russia's internal affairs.
At the end of the meeting at the American diplomatic mission, Tracy said that the ambassador will pay special attention to maintaining dialogue between our two capitals at a time of unprecedented tension and will make sure that all detained Americans in Russia will be treated fairly.
The new ambassador arrived in Moscow on January 26th, becoming the first woman U.S. ambassador to Russia.
Prior to that, Lynne Tracy was U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, served as a Russian affairs advisor to the State Department's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, and also worked in Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
