Lufthansa to Pay up to 50,000 Euros per Crash Victim's Family
German airline Company Lufthansa announced it would pay up to 50,000 Euros ($54,000) compensation to the families of crash victims, following Germanwings Airbus A320 crash in France, Tagesspiegel reported.
The Lufthansa's low-cost subsidiary Germanwings Airbus A320 crashed on Tuesday en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf, killing all 150 people on board.
"Lufthansa pays up to 50,000 Euros per passenger to cover immediate expenses," Germanwings spokesperson told Tagesspiegel on Friday.
Meanwhile, as the investigation into the incident continues, German prosecutors said on Friday that the jet’s co-pilot allegedly responsible for the crash seemed to have hidden mental illness from his employers. The pilot appears to have locked himself inside the cockpit and changed the altitude to a minimum of 100 feet, causing the plane to descend into the mountains.
