The Day of Silence in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic
Today, in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is a day of silence before the upcoming parliamentary elections on May 3. It is exactly on May 3 that in Karabakh the first professional Parliament will be elected. This is the sixth elections of the highest legislative body of NKR, which is being elected for 5-year-period. The National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic consists of 33 deputies, 22 of which are being elected by proportional election system and 11 – by majoritarian. Earlier, on October 29, 2014, the Parliament of NKR approved the amendments to Electoral Code, according to which the number of the deputies to be elected by proportional and the majoritarian system was changed – 22 and 11 instead of previous 17 and 16 respectively.
The election campaign in Artsakh started on March 30. Tomorrow is the elections day and in 11 constituenciesm ore than 250 polling stations will operate. 7 parties are participating in the elections and they were actively carrying out their campaign. About how they asses the pre-election process and how they see their input in the Karabakh conflict settlement, you can read in the exclusive interviews of "Armedia" IAA: Free Homeland, Democratic Party of Artsakh, Armenian Revolutionary Party, Movement-88, National Revival, NK Communist Party, Peace and Development.
The points of view of all the political forces of Karabakh will help the readers and voters in Karabakh to have a full understanding of the NKR political field today - the country which has not yet been recognized by the international community, but it is doing its best to prove – first of all to itself - that what they started in 1988 was the right, the irrevocable and the necessary choice of the Karabakh people.
