Serbia Refuses to Receive Gas Through the "Turkish Stream"

Serbia considers passing gas from the "Turkish Stream" through its territory impossible. Belgrade does not intend to receive gas from that route. This was announced by Serbia’s president Timoslav Nikolich in an interview with Interfax.

He noted, that Russia's decision to refuse "South Stream"may become a problem for country’s energy security. According to Nikolich, in case the "South Stream" was implemented, Serbia would become a transit country and would supply gas to EU. Nokolich reminded, that they had reached a deal with Russia, by which the latest was supposed to finance gas transit in Serbian territory and Belgrade would pay the financed money back from the gas transportation revenues.

Concerning the "Turkish Stream", Nikolich underlined that the pipeline must be passing through Greece to Serbia, but in this case the Serbian side will have to finance the construction on its own. As it is not beneficial for the country it will not be a transit country but will buy gas as an ordinary consumer.
