''Merklande'' vs Cameron
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande have agreed to establish some closer ties between Eurozone countries thus making a direct challenge to UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who is calling for sovereignty to be returned to EU members.
Germany and France are planning to introduce a minimum corporation tax rate across the continent; a move that can result in higher taxes on British companies.
This pact took its final shape behind the Prime Minister's back at the EU summit in Riga, Latvia’s capital, as the Greek debt crisis threatened to destabilise the monetary union, - the Local tells.
However, Britain is prepared to veto any proposals that can result in its surrendering power over tax rates to Brussels.
As the British newspapers report, Cameron met the president of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker the other day. During the meeting Cameron outlined his negotiation plans and noted that ''British people are not happy with the status quo in Europe''.
The British government will publish its EU referendum bill a day after the Queen's Speech on 28 May. The bill will outline similar to the general election franchise that is to be used for the referendum, which means that EU citizens living in the UK will not have a say.
Meanwhile, David Cameron will embark on a tour to Europe to meet his counterparts in Germany, France, Denmark, the Netherlands and Poland later this week.
Anyway, the continental Europe seems to show a red card to its British colleague. On the occasion previously Liam Fox, the former defence secretary of UK, declared that David Cameron should go for a long renegotiation. According to him Cameron’s colleagues’ call for an early vote has "ulterior motives which are not entirely honorable".
"I think they want to see a decision made quickly, to limit the level of debate in the UK'', - added Fox, -''They are afraid that if we have a very full debate then some of the real unacceptable issues in Europe at the present time will become all the more clearly seen by the British public.
