Protests in Armenia: What Does Karabakh Think?
The recent events in Armenia, of course, aroused a great interest in Karabakh. Despite the fact that no formal comments were received from the NKR about what was happening in Yerevan, many residents of Karabakh were not only just interested but were also following everything on social networks, or discussing them on the phone with friends and relatives from Yerevan.
So, a few days after the start of the protests, the co-chairs of the initiative group for the creation of the Republican Party of Artsakh - Karen Ohanjanyan and Arevik Petrosyan - issued a statement which said: "With great excitement and enthusiasm we are following the development of the "No robbery" protest movement in Armenia. We express our deepest sympathy for your movement to restore justice in the formation of a consumer price policy of Armenia's energy sector and the economy as a whole."
Many people, who talked to "Armedia" IAA tell that in the NKR they are following the protests online. The member of Karabakh parliament and the leader of "National Revival" party Hayk Khanumyan in an interview with "Armedia" IAA told a few days ago that he had also been standing on Baghramyan Avenue.
"I am very glad to have met many of my friends there. I fully support the demands of the protesters and hope that this process will one day lead to the nationalization of the objects of primary importance. Many mistakes have been made, these objects have been privatized and given to foreign companies who naturally think only of their own profit. "
"Armedia" IAA continues to communicate with the representatives of the NKR and publish their assessment of what is happening in Armenia. Meanwhile, at the moment, there are few people on the Baghramyan Street. The Government of Armenia started discussing mechanisms for changing the electricity tariffs.
