The Second Incident in Ferguson a Year Later
The Police of the US Missouri state has reported about the fierce fire attack that occurred in the city of Ferguson during the demonstration, which was organized in honour to the South African teenager Michael Brown's death anniversary, who was shot by the white police officer Darren Wilson last year this time.
According to The Washington Post, the Saint Louis Police reported that several shots were heard from the crowd during the protest actions, and one of the officers then opened fire.
One person was injured badly, the overall number of detainees has exceeded 80 in Saint Louis. Some 25 buildings in Ferguson were robbed and set on fire overnight. Rallies were held in 38 states of the US, attended by thousands of people, including not only blacks but also many white citizens.
Before the very march, which began at 12:02 right at the moment when Michael Brown had been shot, a 4.5 minute of silence was held in his memory, as much as the teenager's body was left lying on the street after being shot. Two white doves were released as well by the protesters.
As reported by The New York Times, the march was organized by Michael’s father, Michael Brown. Similar marches were also held in the US capital, Washington DC, Boston, New York and many other cities of USA.
The matter is that the last August’s incident in Ferguson gave rise to a wave of massive protests throughout the United States. Often they led to open confrontation and clashes with the police. But the protest movement gained its additional momentum last November, when a grand jury decided to free Darren Wilson, considering the officer unguilty as he shot the youngster in his self defence.
In March, some test results were published, which showed that the racial discrimination is rather widespread in Ferguson city. Thus it is this kind of discriminatory attitude that caused both the first fatal incident, and the second recent incident in the city.
It is noteworthy that the test results led to the resignations of high-ranking officials, including the city police chief. They were all white and were replaced by the black counterparts in a short period of time. It should be noted that the two-thirds of Ferguson's population are Afro-Americans.
