Ban Ki-moon: The Crime of the Peacekeepers is the "cancer" of the UN
The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon intends to prosecute peacekeepers involved in sexual offenses, as well as their commanders. Such a statement he made after the accusations of "blue helmets" in the rape of a girl in the Central African Republic (CAR), Lenta.ru reports citing the Associated Press.
Ban Ki-moon called the illegal actions of peacekeepers "cancer of the UN." The Secretary General also stressed that the illegal actions of the peacekeepers are not committed only in the CAR.
Ban Ki-moon held a video conference with the heads of 16 missions - the number exceeds 100 thousand people. He pointed that it is the heads that are directly responsible for maintaining discipline within the missions.
