US Senators in Protection for Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan
20 female US senators introduced a resolution to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate in order to secure the release of women political prisoners in the world, including Khadija Ismailova and Leyla Yunus in Azerbaijan.
The resolution was initiated by Senator Kelly Ayot and expressed its full support for the efforts and calls for the US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power to release 20 female prisoners, wrongly arrested and convicted.
"Our message is simple: The World leaders and foreign governments should support women, instead of throwing them in prison," - it was said in the resolution.
Leyla Yunus and Khadija Ismailova were arrested in 2014 and sentenced to 8.5 and 7.5 years in prison.
