Armenia: Experts Discussed Rise of Extremism and the Effectiveness of the EEU

The rise of extremism, the attitude of youth  towards the political issues and economical policy inside the Eurasian Union were discussed on November 26 in Yerevan during the round-table discussion "Armenia, Modern Challenges and Eurasian Integration". The round-table discussion for young economists, political scientists was organized by the Eurasian Expert Club, "Noravank" Scientific, Educational Foundation and Analytical NGO "Integration and Development".

The director of the "Noravank" foundation Gagik Harutyunyan spoke about the rise of extremism, its sources and reasons. He mentioned that such terrorist organizations as Islamic State are carrying out genocide in the Middle East, more than 2 million people have already been killed and another 15 million have become refugees, adding that the Christian culture is being destroyed. He also mentioned the risks for the South Caucasus, as Azerbaijan is one of the main weapon suppliers to the Islamic state, explaining that at the same time the political propaganda of the state increases xenophobia against Armenians. Besides, Harutyunyan said that instabilities can also arise in Turkey, which can cause increase of tension in the region.

Expert of the Eurasian expert club, PhD Doctor of Sociology Samvel Manukyan presented the results of the research on the attitude of the Armenian youth to the main problems in the society and their willingness to change the things. He said, the results show, that political parties will not be so popular in the near future as public movements, but the problem is that there is a lack of knowledge among the youth on the structure of the public life and the rules in it. He suggested to develop and start teaching a new course in universities on public sciences based on the theories of world system analysis. "The aim of the new course is to form systematic and conceptual vision of the world among the students,"Manukyan said.

Economist Ashot Tavadyan spoke about the importance of implementing the points of the Agreement of the Eurasian Economic Union and making it more concrete.

He said the implementation of the points will lead to the transfer to the rubli in internal market in EEU. "The development of the EEU will go by the better scenario if we manage to implement the key points of the EEU agreement and lead coordinated tex-budgetary, monetary policy," Tavadyan said.

The Chairman of the Analytical NGO "Integration and Development" Aram Safaryan underlined that despite of economic crises and reduction of market turnover with Russia, the members of the Eurasian Expert Club are still for the active involvement of Armenia in Eurasian Economic Union and will develop the ideas of improving the effectiveness of the Union.

In the end of December the Eurasian Expert Club will hold annual concluding session to discuss the activities of the club in 2015 and the main political developments of the year.
