Sanctions Against Spain and Portugal

The European Union for the first time could impose sanctions against its own members because of the violation of budgetary discipline.
Spain and Portugal have not reached the necessary budget figures, because of which they will face fines up to 0.2% of GDP and reduce their income from the European funds.
EU officials are once again in difficult situation: imposing sanctions will strengthen the position of eurosceptics, but rejection of the sanctions will hit the position of the Federal government as a financial regulator.
